What is Prayer? (Our Jan 15 Intro to the Prayer Unit)

Source: churchinwales.org.uk

Last week we learned about… what prayer is exactly. It’s Friendship with God! (p. 10 of “Love to Pray” which adults have been purchasing in our church foyer. I encourage you to go over this devo again and adapt it for your child to understand. By the way, this Sunday is the last day to pick one up in the foyer.)

“Prayer is the conversational part of the most important love relationship in our lives, our love relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Prayer helps us to grow into and live out of that most important relationship.” – A VanderGriend

I also shared a childhood favourite song of mine which helped the kids to understand a bit more of the fact that we have direct access to God because of Jesus…

“You can call my rock in the mornin’
Call him late at night
He’s always with me
And all my battles He’ll fights
When I’m in trouble
I can call him on the line
He put a telephone in my heart
And I can call God anytime
Hallelujah!”
- Elijah Rock, Mahaliah Jackson

On January 22nd we will focus on the importance of a clean heart in order to pray effectively, and what one needs to do to get one. :)

P.S. Here’s Mahaliah singing her heart out… (not the best recording but you’ll get the idea of what music filled my living room as a child!)
