Following My Father’s Directions
Karen Ehman

Devotion:
The car was packed; the gas tank full; a cooler stood chock-full of sandwiches for the long ride. This was it! My three kids and I were excitedly off [...]

Need A Little Life?
This morning I was reading in Deut 30:19,20:
“…Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord you God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life and he will give you many years in the land…”
Choose life?

Too busy for Jesus?
Here a few warning signs that Jesus may have gotten buried in the busyness of life:
* You haven’t read the Bible for yourself in awhile. (Bible study Lesson prep doesn’t count!)
* If you pray, it’s at meals, or when you need something.
* Your spouse or kids are starting to resent going to church. (Or perhaps [...]

“I never in my life thought I’d hear people cheering for us to hit their kids,” recalls Gainesville’s QB and middle linebacker, Isaiah. “I wouldn’t expect another parent to tell somebody to hit their kids. But they wanted us to!”

Everyone expected the Father to take the toddler back to her seat. What he did instead, brought a message so profound.
“From the back row of the sanctuary, she was drawn up the dark aisle to the lighted scene at the front. Her father hurried to catch her. I expected him to take her back to [...]

Today in staff meeting, Pastor Rudie asked us about our prayer life and as leaders do we spend more than an hour a day in prayer? He shared stories about great Christian leaders who often spent 3-5 hours a day in prayer. As a result, cities, families, lives were changed.

Some Parents Rethink Toy-Buying
This financial crunch may be a good time to get back to the basics of Christmas.
Parents are writing letters to ask companies to cut down on advertising toys.
The Toy Industry Association has responded with a firm defense of current marketing practices, asserting that children “are a vital part of the gift selection process.”
Hmm, more like [...]

Why are we so blessed in Canada while others are starving?
The Bible says that God comforts us so that we may comfort others.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can [...]

I’ve been there- not knowing where to turn and if God really cared. Often times fellow Christian folks around us lose sight of Jesus and as a result their treatment of us does not reflect Christ and his love. That’s really hard especially when they can be mentors. Yet, we still forget that “all have [...]

On Friday evening, April 25, during a Starfield concert, the floor of the Central Heights Mennonite Brethren church gave way as people were enjoying the worship. About 40 people fell some 12-15 feet to the basement floor. Many were taken to hospital. All but 3 were released. One was in critical condition.

Tax Season
Today when I visited Biblegateway.com, the verse of the day was…
“This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”- Romans [...]

This morning I read 2 Cor 8:9…

Christian churches are not model communities of good behaviour. Before you gasp, think about this for a moment…
Church is to be a place where misbehaviour is brought forward, faced and dealt with. If you go to church and never feel the need to change, something’s wrong. If you go to church and never feel convicted, [...]

Where do we go from here?
“Where do we want to go from here?”
(Parents: where do you want your kids to end up?)
Over the holidays, I read a book which forced me to look in the mirror again—my life mirror. Often times we do the things we do because we seek to meet our own needs but not because of [...]
